In Maasai culture masks were historically worn in traditional ceremonies including celebrations, initiations, crop harvests, and war preparations. Masks often represented the spirits of mythological beings, animals, or spirits. This decorative mask is carved from muhugu wood. Measuring approximately 18" high and 9" wide, this mask features an elephant, giraffe, and leopards carved on the top half, with a traditional face on the bottom half. Hand-painted.
